Why you should get Wedding Insurance

Yesterday I was doing my shopping and I noticed a leaflet for Waitrose wedding insurance.  It is something so simple.  I think every couple planning a wedding should get insurance.

What is is ?

Everybody knows about travel insurance and few would plan a holiday without it, so considering the total cost of a wedding day, I’m not sure why more people aren’t aware of it.

Why would you need wedding insurance ?

As a wedding supplier its a common question I get asked “what happens if your ill”. Thankfully its never happened to me. However I have covered (on more than one occasion) weddings for colleagues that have been injured / ill.

All good quality, experiences professional wedding photographers will have a plan in place incase they were unable to shoot your wedding in an emergency situation.

We have a strong support network of other professionals similar to ourselves that are there as backup for each other – we are all in the same boat.  I guess what couples consider less often is what would happen if they are ill, or injured or if a close family member is?

What happens if at the last moment the wedding has to be cancelled or postponed?

With most weddings being planned many months in advance none of us really know for sure whats around the corner and that is why having wedding insurance is really important- to make sure you would not loose out financially if something did go seriously wrong. As with travel insurance its better to have it in place just incase. So what is wedding insurance?

What does wedding insurance cover?

Typically they cover the cancellation or rearrangement of a wedding due to accident, illness or bereavement within the main wedding party. Most policies also cover other thing such as loss or damage (due to accident, fire or theft) to wedding outfits; presents, rings as well as some personal liability and legal expenses. You can’t make a claim for a situation that you already knew about or if either partner changes their mind!

Honeymoons are not covered as standard, although some providers will bundle it in if you request . If you already have annual multi-trip travel insurance your honeymoon is covered under these anyway.

When should you get it?

As soon as you start paying deposits for your wedding you should be getting your insurance too.. you may not know exactly how much the wedding is going to cost but you can make an educated guess at what things are going to add up to and always amend your policy along the way.

How much does it cost ?

Like everything the prices vary massively, the more you spend the more you get covered. Policy can start from as little as £30 so there is no reason not to get it !The amount you can claim if things go wrong depends on the level of cover you purchased.

Having a quick google you will see there are a lot of options out there ! Or you can pick it up at the supermarket.
