Victoria Hotel in Robin Hoods BayWedding Photography for Sam & Maris – Huge Congratulations to r & Mrs Bates ! A stunning Robin Hoods Bay Wedding! What a superb day this was! I had met up with Sam & Maria for there pre wedding shoot & we had so much fun, Maria is an artist so I know that their wedding day would be a dream. It was my first time capturing a wedding at The Victoria Hotel
Its a stunning venue and I have to say the staff were amazing too. Its so full of old world charm its a really special place.
From the Bride;
The Venue
At The Victoria Hotel in Robin Hoods Bay, both the location and the hotel are very special to us – it’s a beautiful seaside venue that’s steeped in history, but is also somewhere we had visited a few times together as a couple in the past – including on the day of our engagement – we are both naturally drawn to the area, it’s so peaceful with a delightful old world charm.
I would wholeheartedly recommend my venue; nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly. They reassured us from the moment we arrived to rest and enjoy ourselves. I was so worried about it all coming together, They had all the information and made sure that we could just enjoy the day itself by taking care of it all. It was a joy to stay with them.
Even if you don’t get married there – visit the hotel because it’s magical.
The Colour scheme
We went with a purple theme. Our favourite colours are blue (mine) and red (his) and being an artist I decided that combined… we make a purple shade. I also started to fall in love with specific shades of purple while researching weddings, such as lavender, lilac, royal purple, and mauve. I wanted to try to incorporate different shades with my bridesmaids too, for a more modern take on the traditional bridesmaid dress rules.
The Wedding Dress
My dress is from Elite Bridal UK, based in Brighouse. It’s close to where we live but I also very much loved that they design all of the dresses locally too. The sizing has a greater range than most designer stores, so I felt comfortable visiting the store in that they would have dresses that were made more to the shape of my figure. The dress that I picked ended up fitting like a glove on the first try, which was a huge confidence boost. It just takes in my waist perfectly and has lots of beautiful embroidery details – flowers and leaves, and jewels. I knew straight away it was the one, although I never thought I would wear a princess dress! I only tried it on just to see The veil is also from Elite Bridal.
The Groom
Sam picked his suit up from Suits Direct. We first went together just to get an idea, then he took his best man, brother and dad to the shop which worked well – and they picked up a beautiful blue/grey tweed suit ensemble.
Robin Hoods Bay Wedding Photography
Bethany Clarke was our wedding photographer, She was the best! Absolutely amazing! We had an engagement photo shoot before the wedding and the photos were so relaxed and natural. We knew from the moment we met her that we could fully relax and trust in her to capture our big day. I could not recommend Bethany enough. We are so in love with the photos. They’re so natural and capture all the key moments – but also all the details. As an artist I was so keen to get a great photographer. It was a top priority in our budget. Bethany has surpassed everything we wanted from our wedding photographer and more. I’d love to work with Bethany again one day!
Wedding Flowers
We had fresh flowers for everyone in the bridal party, sourced locally from the North Yorkshire Moors by Ginger and Flynn – they were so beautifully arranged and smelled amazing, and we were lucky to have such vibrant purple colours in them in September. I highly recommend Ginger and Flynn for your flower needs!
We also hired Forever to Hold ltd to dress the tables and chairs, they did an amazing job with providing simple but elegant details to the tables – such as the runners, chair bows with the flowers tied to them and the centre pieces. I then added thank you cards which I illustrated myself, along with Etsy artist commissioned table number cards and name cards written in calligraphy. Etsy has some incredible wedding stationery! Sweets and number card holders were from Hobbycraft
The Wedding Cake
Our cake was amazing, and the cupcakes too – I genuinely wish we could eat them all over again. They were by a local baker in our hometown, they’re known on Facebook as O4 Heavens Cake.
I would wholeheartedly recommend my venue; nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly – they reassured us from the moment we arrived to rest and enjoy ourselves and that they would be there to take care of anything we needed.
